Major pharmacy expansion delivers critical healthcare boost for Goondiwindi community

Access to healthcare in regional Australia has taken a significant step forward, with the relaunch of TerryWhite Chemmart Goondiwindi following a major store expansion designed to meet growing local demand.

The newly extended pharmacy now features four dedicated CareClinic consultation rooms and a team of six trained Pharmacist Practitioners, positioning it as one of the most advanced community pharmacy health hubs in regional Queensland.

With a population of more than 10,300 people across the Goondiwindi Region, access to timely healthcare remains a challenge for many residents, particularly where distance and workforce availability can impact how and when care is accessed.

This reflects a broader national trend, with the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reporting that Australians living in rural and remote areas experience reduced access to healthcare services and poorer health outcomes compared to those in major cities.

TerryWhite Chemmart Goondiwindi has already emerged as a leader in pharmacist-delivered care, completing more than 240 pharmacist consultations and ranking among the top three TWC pharmacies in Queensland for service delivery.

The pharmacy is seeing strong demand across a range of health services, with full scope travel consultations, asthma management and hormonal contraception prescribing among the most commonly delivered services. This breadth reflects both the evolving role of pharmacists and the diverse healthcare needs of the local community.

Lucy Walker, Owner, TerryWhite Chemmart Goondiwindi, said the expansion was about more than just increasing floor space, it was about strengthening access to care where it’s needed most.

“Regional communities like Goondiwindi don’t always have the same level of access to healthcare as metro areas, and that’s where community pharmacy plays such an important role,” they said.

“This expansion allows us to support more patients, more often, with accessible, timely care delivered by highly trained pharmacists working alongside local GPs.”

“With 6 Pharmacist Practitioner’s on site, we’re able to provide support across a range of conditions, helping to ease pressure on the broader health system while ensuring patients can get the care they need, when they need it.”

The upgraded store has been designed to support the future of healthcare delivery, with private consultation spaces enabling pharmacists to deliver structured clinical services including prescribing, vaccinations, and chronic condition support.

The strong uptake of services locally reflects a broader trend of Australians turning to their local pharmacist for convenient, trusted and accessible healthcare, particularly in regional communities where access can otherwise be limited.

The official relaunch event will bring together key community and political leaders, including Federal Member for Maranoa Hon David Littleproud, State Member James Lister, and Goondiwindi Region Mayor Lawrence Springborg, alongside local councillors and healthcare stakeholders.

The Goondiwindi Chamber of Commerce was proud to celebrate the relaunch of TerryWhite Chemmart Goondiwindi with owner Lucy Walker and the local community. The newly expanded pharmacy now features four dedicated CareClinic consultation rooms and six Pharmacist Practitioners, making it one of the most advanced community pharmacy health hubs in regional Queensland. This kind of investment in local healthcare is exactly what our region needs, and we are grateful to Lucy for welcoming us to share in the occasion. Congratulations, Lucy, and thank you for your commitment to Goondiwindi.
