Goondiwindi Streetscape Draft Design May 2025

The council is continuing its consultation process to end up with a future plan for the main street precinct for Goondiwindi. They have hired a streetscape consultant to come up with a proposed plan. It started a couple of years ago with a public consultation which many of our members participated in.

A steering committee was formed several weeks ago and has been shown the initial plan and the consultants have been taking feedback from this committee. The Chamber has been represented on the committee and have been giving feedback based on members input.

The main feedback already given by committee members and accepted by the consultants was:

  • Adjacent areas to the main street need to be included in the plan as well:

    • Bowen St

    • Bowen Lane

    • Callandoon Lane

    • Callandoon St

    • Further to the east on the main street to Frideswide St

  • Greater access through to Bowen and Callandoon St to encourage parking off the main st

  • Consider street cleaning in the design ( taps, easier to keep clean etc)

  • Connections to bike ways and pathways to be considered

  • Reduce loss of parking spaces in the main street, by the cross street walkways

  • Considerations of tree placement around park in relation to running the Hell of the West

  • Make laneways through to off street parking more appealing

  • Consult Care Goondiwindi Re: accessibility for disabled and elderly

  • Concerns of street furniture attracting litter from smokers and pub patrons after closing time

The next step is a reviewed plan that will be submitted to the public for more feedback. The Chamber has requested that its members be given a briefing on the plan and it is waiting to see if this will happen.

The last step is to take the public feedback into account and develop the final plan. This should be completed about October this year.

The steering committee are represented by main street business, the Chamber and councillors and have given a lot of feedback which the consultants are currently digesting. Council have agreed that if any Chamber members would like to look at the preliminary plan and offer feedback, they can request a copy. We encourage any members who would like to comment on the current draft and give feedback to the Chamber to do so. Bec will be happy to forward you a copy.

Please direct all feedback to one of the Chamber Steering Committee Representatives listed below.
